The Capitol Hill neighborhood is located just southeast of Denver’s Central Business District (CBD) and is bounded by Broadway, Downing Street, Colfax Avenue, and Seventh Avenue.
Capitol Hill is one of the most diverse and eclectic neighborhoods in the city. Elaborate mansions built in the 1880’s by some of Denver’s early millionaires were later joined by upper-middle class homes and mid-century high-rises. Nestled between 10th and 11th Streets on Sherman Street is Poet’s Row, a block of historic apartment complexes named after poets such as Emily Dickenson and Robert Frost. The many studio and one-bedroom apartments on Capitol Hill are home to an eclectic mix of residents, including the hipsters that add a vibrant energy to the area. Places to eat and shop – both funky and refined – are within easy walking distance, as are the gold-domed Capitol building, the Denver Art Museum, and nearby Cheesman Park.
